Criminal Division

Welcome to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office Criminal Division.

The Criminal Division of the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office prosecutes felonies, gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor crimes committed within the jurisdictional boundaries of Douglas County. The Criminal Division receives referrals on criminal and juvenile cases through arrests and submissions from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the State of Nevada Department of Public Safety (Nevada Highway Patrol, Investigations Division, Tri-Net Narcotic Task Force, and Parole and Probation), the Douglas County Juvenile Probation Department, as well as other state and federal law enforcement agencies and task forces.

The Criminal Division has two specialized units.  The Special Victims Response Team (SVRT) was created by District Attorney Mark Jackson in 2008, through a grant from the U.S. Dept. of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women, to identify, assess and respond to child, youth and adult victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking.  Through collaboration with other law enforcement and non-governmental agencies, the SVRT has dramatically increased the accountability of violent offenders through prosecutions and convictions while also increasing the safety and well-being of victims of these crimes of violence.  The Bad Check Recovery Unit (BCRU) was launched in January of 2010 to provide a more efficient and productive process for handling bad check cases submitted by local merchants and businesses.
